An arrest has been made in Thinadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, in connection with a drug bust.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug operation was conducted in Thinadhoo as part of their efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling across the island nation, and to crackdown on such networks.

The operation was conducted following an intel report of drug trade in the island, on April 17.

Arrested in the operation was a 38-year-old Maldivian man.

Police officers found four pieces of cellophane and two rubber packets containing suspected narcotics, upon searching the man after taking him into police custody.

The case is currently under further investigation.
