Criminal Court has remanded a Swiss national for 30 days for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives.

Detained in connection with the case is Peter Thomas Duss, 59 years. He was ordered to be detained for 30 days from 23 February onwards.

The Criminal Court notes that the luggage of Peter was examined for a second time, after it was found to have a "false bottom", upon his arrival in the country.

False bottoms are extra parts added in the luggage's bottom that are not normally visible.

Cocaine, a narcotic, was discovered in his luggage during the second scan.

With his cooperation, a control delivery operation was carried out. Others who came to pick up the drugs were also discovered during the operation. According to the court order, two people came to take the drugs from him.

He was remanded under the Criminal Procedure Act No. 12/2016.

Judge Mohamed Misbah at the Criminal Court issued the order.
