President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is predicted to win the ongoing main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Presidential Primary Election.
According to the temporary results of Saturday’s polls, President Solih is leading a majority of the votes and will win the election by a huge margin.
As such, temporary results show that President Solih has secure over 65 percent of the votes.
His opponent, Former President and current Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Mohamed Nasheed falls short with just 35 percent of the votes.
If he wins the election, President Solih will run for president in September this year through the main ruling party.
This is the first time that he is contesting a presidential primary of MDP.
Interim results show that President Solih is leading the polls in most of the islands.
The president, during his primary campaign said he would win the election by a huge margin.
