Maldives has confirmed that Eid Al-Fitr will begin on Sunday, despite the moon not being sighted in any part of the country.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, on Saturday night, announced that June 24 as the last day of Ramadan 1438, and then Sunday, June 25 will be the first day of Shawaal, and Eid Al-Fitr.
It added that Sunday will be the first day of Eid Al-Fitr in Maldives, as the moon had been sighted in a number of Muslim countries.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia and Indonesia are some of the countries to have confirmed to have sighted the crescent moon, while neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka have declared that June 25 will be the 30th day of Ramadan in the country.
As only the moon can mark the beginning of Eid Al-Fitr, it is witnessed on different days every year. Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, during which Muslims observed a month-long fast.
