Kuwait Airways has commenced direct flights to the Maldives.
The first flight of the Airline touched down in Velana International Airport (VIA) on Monday. The flight was welcomed with a water salute and a special ceremony was held to commemorate the commencing of Kuwait Airways to the Maldives.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) Ibrahim Thoha and the Kuwait Airways Regional Manager Bashar Karem.
Senior officials from Kuwait Airways, Ministry of Tourism and MACL also attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism went on to highlight that the Kuwait Airways feeds European routes and that the commencement of Kuwait Airways' operations to Maldives will increase the number of passengers from Europe to the Maldives.
Noting that the Kuwait Airways' direct flights opened another door to the Maldives, for Middle Eastern travelers.
Kuwait Airways has scheduled two weekly flights between Kuwait and the Maldives. These flights will make use of A320 aircraft with a seating capacity of 134 passengers.
The first six months of 2022 has seen more than 4,000 tourist arrivals from Kuwait.
