Discussions have been held on growing the partnership between the governments of Maldives and Pakistan in the areas of trade and tourism.

This was done during a farewell call paid by High Commissioner of Pakistan, Vice Admiral (R) Ather Mukthar on Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday.

During the call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian foreign minister congratulated High Commissioner Mukhtar for the successful completion of his term and expressed deepest appreciation for his dedication and commitment towards strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.

FM Shahid and High Commissioner Mukthar also shed light on key areas of bilateral cooperation between Maldives and Pakistan.

These included cooperation in health, education and social sectors.

Discussions also revolved around growing the partnership between both countries in trade and tourism by enhancing connectivity between Maldives and Pakistan.

Thanking FM Shahid for the support extended to him during his tenure, the Pakistani high commissioner expressed hope to observe stronger bilateral relations between the two countries in the future as well.

The Pakistani high commissioner also congratulated FM Shahid on his successful tenure as the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The meeting was joined by State Minister Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed and Joint Secretary, Fathimath Ghina.
