Census 2022: information unavailable from 900 homes in GMR
The data collected in census would help in formulating development plans
Officials are trying to contact the places where information is not available

There are 900 places in Male city where census information has not been provided, according to the Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS).

The Census 2022 efforts began on September 13 and continued till September 25, the MBS said.

MBS said although the time was extended in the Greater Male' Region till September 27, there are 900 places in the area where census information has not been made available for various reasons.

The MBS has asked the people to identify and inform the bureau of the places where the census efforts have not been carried out, like labor quarters and registered places of economic activity.

MBS also notes that the work of contacting said places has been delayed due to reasons such as the places being locked, not being able to meet anyone who can provide information, owners being out of town and not being able to attend the appointment given by the enumerators.

The MBS also revealed that the data collected through Census 2022 will help in policy making and research.

The National Bureau of Statistics says the census information will be kept confidential. If it is required by law, it will be made public after collecting all available information.

Additionally, the National Bureau of Statistics currently has the discretion under the law to take action against individuals who fail to provide information for the census, but the agency has stated that anyone will have opportunities to provide information before the action is taken.

The census workers are carrying out a difficult and important work, and the President has asked the people to cooperate in the work.

The president noted that their work is a very important source of information for the future planning of the country. The information collected in the census will help identify development projects and all major social problems in Maldives, he said.

More than 4,000 people are participating in the census. Census is conducted every 10 years to assess the situation of the country and collect information to facilitate the planning of future projects. Under this, the information and living conditions of the people living in the households will be identified.
