The city council has decided to postpone the penalty for illegally placing pallets on various streets in Male' city.

Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu told RaajjeMV that the fine was postponed to give the public more opportunity. He said he preferred to give time to resolve the issue rather than impose fines.

Muizzu said the council will conduct public awareness programs and after giving the opportunity, further advice will be given. A date for the fine will be announced later, he said.

The city council had earlier decided to impose fines from Thursday. According to the rules of procedure monitored by the Special Constabulary Police, pallets will be fined at the same rates as those placed in public places.

The rule states that it is prohibited to place objects in places in the city without permission. According to it, if the items are placed in a place other than the designated places, the person will be charged MVR 500-1,000 for the first offense.

If it is repeated a second time, the person will be fined MVR 1,500 and in MVR 1,800 for the third according to the city council.

The rule states that if the offense is repeated for the fourth time, a fine of MVR 2,000 will be fined. Those who are trying to block parking zones by placing pallets in front of garages, warehouses, workshops and shops have already drawn a double line indicating that parking is prohibited.

The problem of placing pallets on the streets of the city has already escalated and the city council has removed pallets two times round.
