Celebrated actress Fauziyya Hassan dies

Renowned Maldivian actress, Fauziyya Hassan has passed away.

RaajjeMV understands that Fauziyya passed away in neighboring Sri Lanka, while seeking treatment for a sudden chest ache.

Fauziyya had been residing in Sri Lanka.

It has been more than 35 years since the celebrated actress has been active in the film industry.

Following her demise, the general public as well as those in the Maldivian film industry, have been extending their condolences to her family and has joined in mourning her death.

Since making her debut in the film industry in the 80s, Fauziyya drew the attention from a lot of film makers, hence becoming a household figure and a celebrated actress.

Fauziyya had mostly been playing roles as a mother. She had made appearances in a number of movies as well as drama series.

The late actress’s life took a drastic turn after being imprisoned at a prison facility in Kerala, in neighboring India in 1994, after being pinned with allegations of espionage. She spent more than three years behind bars, before finally being freed after India’s main investigations hub, CBI probes found that it was a fake case, churned by Kerala police themselves.

Sources report that Fauziyya was a victim of extreme police abuse and torture, while she was in prison.

A case has since been submitted to seek compensation for the abuse Fauziyya suffered.
