A woman and her toddler has been injured in a fire inside a residence in Nolhivaranfaru island of Haa Dhaal atoll.

President of the island council, Abdulla Nadheem told RaajjeMV that the fire incident was reported between 6:30am and 7am on Saturday.

The fire was caused by a gas leak.

Due to the gas leak, the mother and toddler are to have caught fire. However, the gas cylinder did not explode.

Nadheem went on to reveal that the fire did not spread.

A 32-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter sustained injuries in the fire.

The woman is to have sustained injuries to her hands, legs and face, with the toddler even having attained some burn injuries.

Further details of the extent of their injuries, were not disclosed.

The mother and daughter were initially rushed to the Nolhivaranfaru Hospital for treatment. However, they have been transferred to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital for further treatment.

They are reportedly in stable condition, currently.

The fire incident comes at a time a woman died from burn injuries attained after a gas cylinder exploded inside a house in Rathafandhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, earlier this month.

The woman was being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) before she succumbed to her injuries, last week.
