M. Maduvvari councilors have shared the most pertinent needs and concerns of the island community, with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president met with the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members on Saturday afternoon, as part of his ongoing five-island tour of Meemu atoll.
Maduvvari island is the second destination of the trip.
During the meeting held at the Secretariat of the Maduvvari Island Council, the councilors noted that a majority of the development projects in the island were initiated during the incumbent administration, hence they expressed gratitude to President Solih for working closely with island communities to address their needs and concerns.
Discussions also revolved around challenges due to coastal erosion, storm surges as well as the design of the island’s harbor.
In addition to this, addressing space constraints at the school and the need for a youth center were also topics of discussion.
The harbor development project of the island was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the commencement of the project has been delayed due to disagreements within the community over the design of the harbor.
This being said, the president revealed that the project will only proceed with the input of the residents, and would be built just as they want it.
Further, water and sewerage projects are also underway in Maduvvari, currently.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the president also sat down with the island’s residents.
Raiymandhoo was the president’s first destination of the tour, which he began on Saturday morning.
President Solih will be touring five islands of Meemu atoll during the three-day tour.
As such, alongside Raiymandhoo and Maduvvari, the president will also visit Dhiggaru, Veyvah as well as Muli.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.
The President’s Office revealed that during the visits, the president will be inspecting the progress of the ongoing development projects in these islands.
President Solih will participate in the ceremony marking the conclusion of the shore protection project in Dhiggaru island, as well as the ceremony to officially inaugurate the harbor and powerhouse in Veyvah island.
He will also sit down with members of the Meemu Atoll Council, island councils and Women’s Development Committees of the respective islands.
President Solih is expected to return to the capital on August 29, after concluding the visit.
