More than 129,233 tourists welcomed in July
Maldives aims to welcome 1.6 million tourists this year
Maldives has welcomed a total of 942,444 tourists so far
129,233 arrivals were recorded from July 1 – 30

Maldives welcomed more than 129,233 tourists in the past month.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Tourism in its latest daily statistics, publicized on Sunday.

Statistics revealed that so far in the Golden Jubilee Year of tourism, Maldives has welcomed a total of 942,444 tourists.

The ministry revealed that between January 1 – July 30 this year, the arrival figure saw an increase of 55.2 percent compared to the same period of 2021. It is however, a decline of 4.9 percent compared to the figures recorded in 2019.

131,764 tourists were welcomed during January and 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February, followed by 150,739 arrivals in March and 145,280 during April. In May, Maldives welcomed 125,522 tourists, while June saw 110,889 tourists arriving in the Maldives.

129,233 arrivals were recorded from July 1 – 30. This figure is a 33.9 percent growth compared to the arrivals recorded in 2021, it is also a 0.8 percent increase from the figure recorded in the same period of 2019.

The statistics go on to indicate that tourists are staying in the Maldives for an average of eight days this promising year, with daily arrivals being maintained at an average of 4,467. The daily average for the ongoing month, is at 4,308.

Daily tourist arrivals recorded so far in July are as follows:

  • 3,849 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 1
  • 4,375 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 2
  • 4,395 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 3
  • 4,649 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 4
  • 3,699 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 5
  • 4,243 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 6
  • 4,579 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 7
  • 4,881 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 8
  • 5,200 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 9
  • 4,954 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 10
  • 4,933 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 11
  • 4,113 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 12
  • 4,414 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 13
  • 4,158 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 14
  • 4,389 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 15
  • 4,197 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 16
  • 4,481 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 17
  • 4,240 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 18
  • 3,658 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 19
  • 4,190 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 20
  • 4,218 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 21
  • 4,024 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 22
  • 4,375 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 23
  • 4,527 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 24
  • 4,433 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 25
  • 3,883 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 26
  • 4,223 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 27
  • 3,921 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 28
  • 3,740 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 29
  • 4,292 tourist arrivals were recorded on July 30

Figures go on to reveal that India continues to top the Maldives tourist arrival markets, halfway into 2022.

As such, the ministry revealed that even though Russia had maintained its position as the top source market for Maldives tourism in the past, India has once again become the top tourist market for Maldives, contributing 14.5 percent of the total arrival figure by July 30.

Second comes the United Kingdom, contributing 11.6 percent.

Coming in third is Russia contributing 10.7 percent.

Although Ukraine was also included among the top 10 markets for Maldives tourism earlier, it has since been replaced. Arrivals from Ukraine have been plummeting due to the ongoing war.  

Other top tourism markets so far in 2022 are:

  • Germany contributing eight percent
  • Italy contributing 5.7 percent
  • United States contributing 4.9 percent
  • France contributing 3.4 percent
  • Saudi Arabia contributing 2.4 percent
  • Switzerland contributing 2.2 percent
  • Spain contributing 2.2 percent

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in his presidential address on February 3, revealed that Maldives aims to welcome 1.6 million tourists this year.

During 2020, Maldives recorded 555,494 tourist arrivals, which was a drastic plunge from the previous year’s 1,702,887 arrivals. Maldives met its tourist arrival target for 2021 in late December and welcomed a total of 1,321,932 tourists by the end of the year.

It has been 50 years since zealous travelers have been visiting the Maldives which has been drawing in visitors with its picturesque beauty for years.

Maldives marks 50 years in 2022 since the tourism industry’s inception in 1972.
