Maldives welcomes more than 830,000 tourists
Between January 1 – July 04 this year, the arrivals figure saw an increase of 59.2 percent compared to the same period of 2021

During the first four days of July, Maldives welcomed a total of 17,268 tourists

Maldives has welcomed more than 830,000 tourists so far in 2022.

Ministry of Tourism revealed this in their latest daily statistics, publicized on Tuesday.

According to the statistics publicized by the Ministry, Maldives has welcomed a total of 830,479 tourists by July 04, 2022.

As such, between January 1 – July 04 this year, the arrivals figure saw an increase of 59.2 percent compared to the same period of 2021. It is however, a decline of 5.5 percent compared to the figures recorded in 2019.

Statistics shows that Maldives welcomed 131,764 tourists during January 2022. 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February, followed by 150,739 arrivals in March and 145,280 during April. Maldives welcomed 125,522 tourists in May, while 110,889 tourists were welcomed in June 2022.

During the first four days of July, Maldives welcomed a total of 17,268 tourists. They are; 3,849 tourists in July 1, 4,375 tourists in July 2, 4,395 tourists in July 3, and 4,649 tourists in July 4.

The statistics go on to indicate that tourists are staying in the Maldives for an average of eight days this promising year, with daily arrivals being maintained at an average of 4,489. The daily average for the ongoing month, is at 4,317.

Daily average of tourist arrivals recorded so far in 2022 are as follows:

  • The daily average of January was, 4,250
  • The daily average of February was, 5,322
  • The daily average of March was, 4,863
  • The daily average of April was, 4,843
  • The daily average of May was, 4,049
  • The daily average of June was, 3,696
  • The daily average of July is, 4,317

Figures go on to reveal that India continues to top the Maldives tourist arrival markets, halfway into 2022.

As such, the ministry revealed that even though Russia had maintained its position as the top source market for Maldives tourism in the past, India has once again become the top tourist market for Maldives, contributing 14.8 percent of the total arrival figure by July 04..

Second comes the United Kingdom, contributing 11.8 percent.

Coming in third is Russia contributing 10.1 percent.

Although Ukraine was also included among the top 10 markets for Maldives tourism earlier, it has since been replaced. Arrivals from Ukraine have been plummeting due to the ongoing war.  

Other top tourism markets so far in 2022 are:

  • Germany contributing 8.3 percent
  • Italy contributing 6 percent
  • United States contributing 4.8 percent
  • France contributing 3.6 percent
  • Switzerland contributing 2.3 percent
  • Saudi Arabia contributing 2.2 percent
  • Spain contributing 2 percent

It has been 50 years since zealous travelers have been visiting the Maldives which has been drawing in visitors with its picturesque beauty for years.

Maldives marks 50 years in 2022 since the tourism industry’s inception in 1972.

During 2020, Maldives recorded 555,494 tourist arrivals, which was a drastic plunge from the previous year’s 1,702,887 arrivals. Maldives met its tourist arrival target for 2021 in late December and welcomed a total of 1,321,932 tourists by the end of the year.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in his presidential address on February 3, revealed that Maldives aims to welcome 1.6 million tourists this year.
