Vice President Faisal Naseem has discussed the incumbent administration’s development plans for Neykurendhoo Island in the Haa Dhaal atoll, with the island council.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office on Wednesday, extensive discussions were held regarding President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s development plans for the island.

The meeting saw councilors shedding the spotlight on the administration's development work ongoing in the island and expressed appreciation for incumbent government’s policy on ensuring equitable development across the country.

The vice president was also briefed on the challenges and issues facing the island community.

Some of the highlighted issues include lack of space at the healthcare center as well as harbor constraints, challenges in cleaning and protecting the island’s wetlands and other issues coming from these difficulties.

Councilors also spoke on the need for a waste management facility and a children's park.

At the meeting VP Naseem was requested to fast-track on the planned development of a prison complex on the island.

Discussions were also held on ways to address the most pertinent social issues in Neykurendhoo.

Listening to their concerns, VP Naseem gave his assurance that he would bring their concerns to the attention of relevant government agencies and monitor the progress.

The vice president noted that the administration remains committed to unbiased nationwide development, without discriminating between island communities.

VP Naseem also stressed on the significance of working together to sustain ethical values and bolstering the social fabric.
