Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated that he believes no one should have their education limited due to a lack of opportunities and financial resources.
Minister Shahid made this remark at the launching ceremony of Honorary Consuls Scholarship Programme 2022, held on Tuesday.
In his remarks Minister Shahid highlighted that the Honorary Consuls Scholarship Programme was an initiative, he personally took on، in 2019 to contribute to the realization of the presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ensure increased opportunities for quality high education for Maldivian youth.
Minister Shahid stated that the Honorary Consuls are demonstrating their commitment and goodwill to assist in the empowerment of Maldivian youth by their participation in this Scholarship Programme.
He went on to say that these opportunities will open up new avenues for Maldivian youth and students to advance their education and gain experience through training opportunities along with peers from all over the world.
Minister Shahid assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Maldives Missions Abroad will continue to double their efforts to gain more capacity building opportunities for youth.
Minister Shahid expressed his gratitude for the Honorary Consuls who contributed to the Scholarship Programme and stated that he hopes to see the expansion of the Programme through more Scholarship opportunities made available. He said that he hopes to see more Honorary Consuls joining in the Programme in the future.
The Honorary Consuls Scholarship Programme launched on Tuesday offers 44 new scholarships to interested students to pursue degrees either in Undergraduate, Post Graduate or Doctorate Studies.
