Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan met with the Maldivian students who came back from Ukraine, amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

When the Russian army first attacked Ukraine on February 24, there were a total of 51 Maldivian students in Ukraine. While 30 students came back to Maldives before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine started to escalate, 21 students were brought back to Maldives while the attacks were being exchanged between both the countries.

The Minister met with 15 of these students at the Higher Education Ministry, this Tuesday. Two of these students were in Kharkiv, where the Russian attacks are the strongest.

During the meeting, Minister Ibrahim Hassan inquired the students about how their studies went and advised them to keep in touch with the administration of the universities on how to continue their studies.

The students expressed their gratitude to the Ministry and the Maldivian government for bringing them back to Maldives safely. Financial assistance was provided to the students through the Ministry of Higher Education.

The 21 students who were in Ukraine when the conflict started to escalate, crossed the border into Hungary before they made their way to Maldives.
