They are currently in Lviv and will commence the trip to cross the border at a later time on Wednesday.

They are to travel to the Consulate of Hungary from Lviv and the foreign ministry has made arrangements to make entry into Hungary “as smooth as possible”, after discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and his Hungarian counterpart.

The Ministry went on to reveal that the Maldivians traveling to the border will be welcomed by the Ministry’s team on the Hungarian side.

Further the authority revealed that 11 students have requested for assistance in traveling back to the Maldives so far, at the Embassy of Maldives in Berlin, Germany.

As such, they are to have applied for exit visa and the Maldivian government has requested the universities to expedite the process for the students.

The students will receive assistance from the embassy of Maldives in Berlin and the ministry’s Consular Department in finding a route for flights.

The government has also informed the students that financial assistance will be provided to those who request to fly back.

Foreign Ministry went on to highlight that the students in all three cities in Belarus where currently they are attending physical classes, have reported that the situation is normal.

In addition to this, the students in all four cities of Russia where Maldivians are residing, have also reported a normal situation where physical classes are ongoing.

Foreign Ministry is currently in touch with all students and closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds.
