Citizens must work together to find a sustainable solution for waste management, states Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aminath Shauna.

Speaking at an event held to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable waste management this Saturday, Minister Shauna said she hopes to see improvements as the councils work together in waste management.

Saturday’s awareness event was organized by the Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Male' City Council and the Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Technology.

During this event that was held at Villimale', Minister Shauna said that waste management is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Stating that the government is doing a lot of work to find a solution for waste management, Shauna said that it will not be easy to find a permanent solution for it.

Speaking about the establishment of regional waste management centers, Minister Shauna said that this will help reduce the waste mountains in the islands.

While highlighting the importance of public awareness Shauna also stated that working together at island or regional level will help find sustainable waste management methods, and the goal is to make good changes to the country's waste management processes over the next two years.

Male' City WDC informs that they will be continuing these awareness programs. WDC describes the program held at Villimale' as successful.
