President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to provide swift solutions to the challenges facing the community of Naifaru island in Lhaviyani atoll.
As part of his ongoing tour of the atoll, the president sat down with the island council on Saturday, where he was briefed on the most pertinent needs and issues facing the island community including the urgency to address the housing needs, despite newly built 100 housing units, the need for upgrading healthcare services including specialty services, improving waste management, challenges in managing Madhrasathul Ifthithaah, difficulties for fishermen in acquiring ice, and other concerns regarding the improvement of socio-economic activities on the island.
Listening to these concerns, the president stated that the administration will find amicable solutions to the concerns raised by the council. He also noted that most of the concerns were regarding ongoing projects, highlighting that the administration will soon revolve the concern regarding the upgrading of healthcare with the addition of specialty services.
He also announced that the government will initiate a road development project soon, with the completion of the water and sewerage network project.
Highlighting that the administration will remain resilient to deliver its pledges to the people, the president noted that despite difficulties presented by the ongoing pandemic, the economic situation has improved vastly and that development projects will continue uninterrupted.
The new extension building featuring 10 classrooms, an audio-visual room and a staff room of the Madhrasathul Ifthithaah was also inaugurated by the president on Saturday.
He also visited the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital and inquired about its services.
Prior to his visit to Naifaru, the president visited Felivaru where he inspected the progress of the land reclamation project carried out by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) as part of the administration’s project to expand cold storage facilities.
The project will see the development of a 4,000 ton cold storage, a 100 ton fish processing plant, dedicated quays for loading and unloading as well as a powerhouse.
The president is currently on a three-day tour of Lhaviyani atoll, where he will be covering a total of six islands. He is accompanied by a delegation of high-level government officials.
