Maldives, Korea shares dynamic partnership in parliamentary diplomacy

The continued cooperation between both countries has reflected how the bilateral and multilateral ties between the two countries have thrived

Maldives and Korea have shared a dynamic partnership in parliamentary diplomacy, also known as cultural collaboration.

On the occasion of the 54th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Korea, Korean Ambassador Woonjin Jeong shed light on the prospering parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries, with the establishment of the Maldives-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Ambassador Jeong expressed hopes on many high-level exchanges between the two countries in the near future, having noted that the establishment of the Maldives-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group mirrors the deepened bilateral legislative ties shared between the two nations.

Going on to state promoting people-to-people exchanges between Maldives and Korea require cultural collaboration, Ambassador Jeong highlighted that Korean culture has been expanding across many countries in the world including Maldives. As such, Korean pop music, movies, food and television drama series have been gaining popularity in the Maldives as well.

He highlighted that it is encouraging to witness Korean culture being embraced by a global audience including South Asian viewers based on the common threads that bond all Asian societies.

In a bid to pave path for a deeper understanding of Korean history, people and culture, the ambassador expressed commitment to assist Maldivians discover the many cultural aspects Korea has to offer.

Of recent, Korean cinema has been growing in popularity among many Maldivians especially the youth, as it is widely available on entertainment platforms like Netflix. This has been deemed a major step-up for Maldives as there has been a limited selection of language for years, when it comes to music and cinema.

Going on to shed the spotlight on cooperation in tourism, trade, multilateral fora and climate change action between Korea and Maldives, the ambassador reiterated commitment to work closely with the government of Maldives to achieve the common goals.

He also expressed commitment to work collaboratively to usher in a new era of amity and prosperity.
