In a bid to control the spread of Covid-19 in Addu, safety measures have been tightened in the southernmost city.
According to the city council, although less, the infection is observed to be spreading among the community, which provoked the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to strengthen safety measures from Sunday.
As such, social gatherings and events where large groups of people gather have been prohibited, alongside house visits.
Further, the council cited HPA having revealed that all school activities other than lessons, have been halted temporarily as well.
The curfew enforced in Addu City will be upheld, from 9pm to 4am.
Currently, the highest number of active cases across Addu are in Maradhoo district; 139.
Of the remaining active cases, 79 are in Hithadhoo, 17 in Feydhoo, nine in Maradhoo-Feydhoo, three in Hulhudhoo, one in Gan and 22 in Meedhoo.
This adds up to 270 active coronavirus cases in the southernmost city.
Five Covid-19 patients are receiving in-hospital treatment at the Addu Covid Facility, with the death toll recorded in the city sitting at three.
This comes at a time the government has closed borders for seven African countries triggered by the threats of the new and more transmissible variant of Covid-19.
