The members of Maduvvari island council, joined by MP for Dhiggaru Constituency, Ikram Hassan, met President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President’s Office to share the concerns and interests of the island community.
During the meeting, the councilors expressed sincere appreciation to President Solih, who was the only leader to have taken time to meet the council, in many years.
This, the council said mirrors the incumbent administration’s commitment to prioritize progress in all inhabited islands, regardless of the population.
Briefing the president on issues and concerns of the island community, the councilors engaged in discussions regarding land reclamation, soil erosion, waste management, revisions to the council's jurisdiction and scarcity of human resources at the Council Secretariat among other important issues pertinent to the development of the island.
Further, discussions also touched down on the lack of a safe and secure island harbor, as well as other development visions for the community.
