The Islamic ministry informed that in the course of the meeting, the topic discussed was in relation to the complains the ministry has received

Government authorities have engaged in discussions regarding bringing a stop to religious extremism through the powers of law.

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali, Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla and the Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed was present at the meeting to take the discussion forward.

The Islamic Ministry informed that in the course of the meeting, the topic discussed was in relation to the complains the ministry has received in regards to Islamic extremism. Therefore, the ministry affirmed that relevant bodies plan on working together with the help of the law to find a solution to this matter.

Relevant parties came to an agreement on how to deal with acts of Islamic extremism and the normalization of activities against Islamic laws while discussing the obstacles faced in coming to solution.

The topic of Islamic extremism is currently very popular in the Maldives, following the assassination attempt on Parliament Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed on May 6.
