Maldives has reported a second Covid-19 fatality in 24 hours.
After 18 days of no fatalities linked to Covid-19 reported nationwide, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported the death of a 75-year-old local woman being treated for coronavirus at Hulhumalé Medical Facility (HMF) on Sunday morning at 11:20am.
Monday’s death is the third Covid-19 fatality of the month.
The deceased is a 92-year-old Maldivian woman who was brought to the Addu Covid Management Facility.
She was declared dead by doctors at the facility at 7:30am.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death count to 224, of which 174 have been reported thus far in 2021.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
