Maldives Media Council (MMC)'s annual Journalism Awards ceremony is to be held in October.

MMC said that the awards ceremony is scheduled for October 11.

While a total of 12 categories have been announced , 87 names were submitted for 10 categories.

This includes nine nominees for investigative journalism, 21 nominees for social impact journalism, six nominees for political journalism, nine nominees for business and economy reporting, five nominees for sports journalism, six nominees for photojournalism, three nominees for video journalism, 17 nominees for feature report and two nominees for most promising journalist.

While the award for environmental journalism is not included this year, there were no nominations for the two new categories announced this year; audio journalism and news graphics and illustrations.

Unlike previous years, a total of three features must be nominated out of the 12 presented for journalists competing in the fields of Environment and Sustainable Development, Politics, Judiciary and Law, Business and Economy, Sports as well as Feature Report.

MMC said that this is the most nominations received in a year, since the launch of the journalism awards.

MMC announced that this is the first time so many journalists have been nominated for the Awards ceremony.
