President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on an official three-day trip to Th. Atoll, on Tuesday evening.

The president is to visit seven islands during the Thaa atoll tour; Thimarafushi, Kinbidhoo, Omadhoo, Veymandoo, Vandhoo, Kandoodhoo and Gaadhiffushi.

Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mabrook Abdul Azeez told RaajjeMV that the president would be meeting with the councils, committees in charge of development projects and heads of different institutes of the seven islands during the tour.

Mabrook said that while councilors were appointed for the first time ever to run councils under the Decentralization Act, it was one of President Solih’s aims to ensure that councils run independently. While the president has been meeting with the newly elected councilors virtually, these visits allow him to meet them in person.

President Solih will also look over the development projects ongoing within the island, something he was unable to do for nearly two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The president, along with First Lady Fazna Ahmed and senior government officials traveled to South Thiladhunmathi atoll last month. They visited three islands; Kulhudhuffushi City, Hanimaadhoo and Kumundhoo.
