Maldives has now “successfully” reached a new normal, says an enthusiastic President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Addressing students and employees of the education sector during a special assembly to commemorate the new academic year at Rehendhi School in Hulhumalé, President Solih revealed that the reopening of schools mirrors the fact that the country is living in a new normal, as well as the fact that regular working hours at offices and businesses have been resumed.

However, the country should remain alert against threats of new coronavirus variants surfacing, despite reaching the new normal.

In this regard the president has urged parents, teachers as well as students to pay special heed to follow the measures and safety guidelines against Covid-19, as well as to work hand in hand to maintain the momentum to curb the virus across Maldives.

Acknowledging that several children were disappointed after schools were closed for physical classes, the president advised the students to “make the most” of the opportunity given, with a “positive outlook”.

Wishing all students a successful, pleasant and productive academic year ahead, the president encouraged students to do their best to overcome obstacles in their learning endeavors, as well as efforts to become productive members of the society. Children were urged to make their parents and family happy and proud of their progress.

Further, President Solih went on to shed light on the generous contribution of teachers to the nation and affirmed that the government will always recognize and appreciate their hard work.

During his speech the president announced that the administration is currently working on revising the payment system for the education sector and providing salary increments through the next year's budget.

Highlighting that educators are the “key” to imparting ideals that would address the most pressing societal issues surfacing today, President Solih noted that it is a necessity to provide greater incentives for them.
