Health Ministry has said that there are no ongoing investigations into any Covid-19 testing scams.
Confirming that such investigations have been carried out in the past, the ministry's Quality Assurance Commissioner Thasleem Usman told RaajjeMV that there are no such ongoing probes. He added that the ministry has not received any such complaints since.
However, police's media officer confirmed to RaajjeMV that they are inspecting an issue of fake negative PCR tests. While the officer noted that such issues are being monitored since 2020, no further details were disclosed including the number of complaints received by the institution.
The fourth wave of Covid-19 in May led to stronger restrictions including travel restrictions between islands for all citizens. Yet, with the decrease in daily figures during last month, authorities eased the measures mid-July including allowing travel with no quarantine for fully vaccinated individuals. Negative PCR test results are required for travel.
Since the measures were eased, daily coronavirus infections reported from outlying atolls have been on the rise.
Further, those traveling to the country are required to present negative Covid-19 test results as well.
