Kulhudhuffushi City's coronavirus tally has reached 60 with two more testing positive for the virus.

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital stated that when the samples of five people who came in contact with positive individuals were taken and tested, two of them were found to be positive, increasing the positive case tally of the island to 60.

The hospital informed that 134 samples were taken on Wednesday, out of which 120 samples have been tested already came back negative.

They highlighted that 76 percent of positive cases were direct contacts, adding that work is underway to identify more contacts.

Following the confirmation of Covid-19 on Kulhudhuffushi, the city was placed under monitoring on July 24.

As of now, more than 60 areas in the island are under quarantine – this includes homes in which those that are positive and those that are direct contacts reside.

Kulhudhuffushi city council has decided to take preventive measures within the island following the rise in positive cases – this includes wearing a mask whenever outside, especially those who work in customer service. In addition, public areas have been restricted and it is urged that locals do not go swimming in groups.

Furthermore, it has been instructed that locals must not roam around the streets or visit other people’s homes unless absolutely necessary and those in quarantine are asked to follow all guidelines imposed by authorities.
