With the detection of new Covid-19 infections, Himandhoo island in Alif Alif atoll has been placed under monitoring.
The island was placed under monitoring after a person who travelled from the capital Malé City tested positive.
The island’s Health Center began efforts to determine the spread of the infection immediately, having collected 28 samples by 11pm on Tuesday.
While the results of 16 samples are pending, four returned positive.
The health center has urged the island community to call the flu clinic if they exhibit symptoms, through 7983945, for Covid-19 testing. Island residents have been advised against visiting the flu clinic and consulting through telephone.
The health center has also stressed that the common cold is spreading vastly across the island of recent. With this being said island residents have been urged to give full cooperation to help authorities control the spread of Covid-19 in the island.
Further, Fonadhoo island and Gan island in Laamu atoll were also placed under monitoring recently.
Contact tracing is underway in all three islands. Fonadhoo was brought under monitoring after a woman who travelled to the island tested positive. Gan was placed under monitoring in connection to this.
Entering and exiting the islands has been prohibited following the implementation of monitoring measures.
