With five new infections confirmed, the Covid-19 case tally in the southern city of Fuvahmulah has been pushed to 880.

Between the reporting period of 5pm Sunday to 5pm Monday, 45 more samples were tested for Covid-19 across the city, of which five returned positive for the virus.

According to the latest figures released by the Fuvahmulah Hospital, the city has observed a total of 828 recoveries from Covid-19 so far, with three patients currently hospitalized for treatment at the facility. Maldives reported its 222nd Covid-19 fatality from the southern city. The victim was identified as a 94-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at Fuvahmulah Atoll Hospital before succumbing to coronavirus complications at 9am on Tuesday. Tuesday’s death was the first fatality of the ongoing month.

765 residences across the city are currently under monitoring and authorities have identified 316 contacts as high-risk contacts so far.

Fuvahmulah City currently has 53 active covid-19 cases.

A total of 19,583 samples have been collected for coronavirus testing across the southern city thus far, with the results for 64 of them, pending.

5,992 residents of Fuvahmulah City have received their first Covid-19 vaccination doses so far, with 4,945 having been fully vaccinated.

The hospital has urged residents of the city to test for Covid-19 should they develop any symptoms, without delay.

In a bid to control the Covid-19 outbreak in the city, a number of precautionary measures and restrictions had been implemented, alongside awareness efforts on the importance of vaccination. Recently healthcare authorities implemented eases to restrictions, despite which the community has been urged to do their part to control the spread of Covid-19. The city was placed under monitoring for a second time on May 5.
