President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has engaged in discussions regarding challenges posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, with the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his ongoing unofficial visit to Sri Lanka.
President Solih, accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, paid a courtesy call on the Sri Lankan president on Thursday, at the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, in Colombo.
Discussions revolved around a number of topics including the commitment of both countries in ensuring further strengthening of the cooperation between Maldives and Sri Lanka, over the years ahead.
Both leaders touched down on the unprecedented challenges in the face of coronavirus, to the wellbeing of citizens of both countries.
President Solih and President Rajapaksa discussed the measures required to ensure Covid-19 facilities in their respective countries do not become overburdened and highlighted that inoculation is their top priority for a “faster” and “sustainable” recovery.
High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzak and the Maldives' Special Envoy for Climate Change Sabra Noordeen accompanied President Solih during the call.
The first couple will return to Maldives after concluding their unofficial visit, on Friday.
