RaajjeTV has officially handed over the funds collected through its “Maldives with Palestine” telethon to assist the people of Palestine devastated by the violent attacks targeted by the nation-state of Israel.
During a virtual ceremony held on Friday afternoon, RaajjeTV’s Managing Director Ahmed Saleem presented the cheque, totaling USD 104,749.65, to Walid Abu Ali, Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Walid is also the non-resident Ambassador of Palestine to the Maldives.
RaajjeTV hosted a special 24-hour telethon – which was extended by an additional 12 hours after the station reached its initial target of MVR one million within 24 hours – on May 21 and May 22, to raise funds to assist the Palestinian people.
RaajjeTV and the people of Maldives raised a total of MVR 1,615,239.65, which amounts to USD 104,749.65.
Prior to the virtual ceremony, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur extended its “sincerest” appreciation and gratitude to the station’s generous efforts.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, RaajjeTV’s MD, also the MP for Hoarafushi constituency, Saleem revealed that Maldives understands that life is Gaza is generally a “struggle to survive”, that the unjust and cruel blockade has “severely” weakened infrastructure in Gaza and how 80 percent of people in Gaza are reliant on donations and generous assistance.
With this being said, MD Saleem noted that Maldives has always stood to support for an independent and sovereign Palestine.
