The body of the 13-year-old abduction victim was found stuffed inside a suitcase.
Police early Tuesday morning revealed that the 13-year-old was found dead in the capital’s suburban district Hulhumale’, a day after the abduction report was filed.
Speaking to RaajjMV, an eyewitness recounted having seen two men dragging a suitcase towards the abandoned area in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 at around 5 to 5:30pm on Sunday.
They are to have arrived there in a car, and the eyewitness is to have lost sight of them as they headed towards the seaside.
Police officers are to have pulled the suitcase out of the sea on Monday night, with the eyewitness saying that the suitcase was tied so that it would not drift away.
The eyewitness further said that the two men who were seen dragging the suitcase were present at the scene when the officers pulled it out of sea.
The 13-year-old boy was a native of Madaveli island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll but had been residing the capital since he was a child.
While his body was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for further analysis, authorities have since decided to send the body abroad for a post-mortem examination.
Police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in relation to the abduction and murder; a 17-year-old and 27-year-old.
It assured that this “heinous crime is being investigated with utmost diligence”.
