Maldives High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr. Farahanaz Faizal has been appointed as the President of the Women in Diplomacy London.

Her appointment was made official at a ceremony held at Georgia Embassy in the UK on Monday, by current President Linda Scott, the Namibian High Commissioner to UK.

While Dr. Farahanaz will take over presidency of the Women in Diplomacy Network for a six-month period from July 1.

Georgia’s Ambassador to UK, Sophie Katsarava was appointed as the Vice President.

Following the appointment, Dr. Farahanaz said that she was “delighted” to take over the presidency of the Women in Diplomacy Network with Katsarava as her deputy.

Farahanaz -who is also Maldives’ Non-Resident Ambassador to France, Ireland and Spain- added that she was looking forward to working with all the female diplomats in London.

The Women in Diplomacy Network was formed years ago by female diplomats serving in the United Kingdom. After remaining inactive for about a year, its work was restarted in April 2020 together with Embassy Magazine.

The main aim of the network is women empowerment and to discuss challenges posed to female diplomats in the work environment and their lives as well as to find collective solutions to these issues. The network conducts workshops and trainings for female diplomats at embassies and high commissions, as well as mentorship programmes for new diplomats.

The presidency of the network rotates every six months.
