President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday.
The meeting was conducted at the President's Office, where President Solih and Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held discussions on the concerns raised by residents of Male; City, in addition to ways through which the government could assist in Male' City Councils opearaions and improve their functionality.
Mayor Dr. Muizzu posted a tweet shortly after, describing the meeting as a hopeful one and thanking President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his accommodating answers.
Shortly after being sworn in as Male' City Mayor earlier this month, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who represents the main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) had stated that they newly-elected Male' City Council would not be a political entity, and would work to provide public service to all residents irrespective of political differences.
Mayor Dr. Muizzu went on to assert that that the Male' City Council would be the Solih administration's closest ally, so long as the government continues to cooperate with the council for the sake of the people.
Mayor Dr. Muizzu has been observed as a very active political figure. Prior to his meeting with President Solih, Mayor Dr. Muizzu had met with a number of cabinet ministers to discuss challenges faced by Male' City residents.
