RaajjeTV has closed out a special telethon titled “Maldives with Palestine” to assist the people of Palestine, submerged in violent attacks targeted by the nation-state of Israel.

The privately-run television station’s Head of Programmes and Coordination Amir Saleem revealed that the purpose of hosting the telethon was to pave way for Maldivian communities to extend their generous assistance to the Palestinian people at a time several fellow Muslims including women and children, living in occupied territories were being killed by Israeli military forces.

Raajje TV's telethon aims to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and fulfill the station’s social responsibility in this important cause.

The “Maldives with Palestine” telethon began at 6am on Friday and was expected to run until 6am on Saturday. However, due to an outpouring of public support, the station reached the telethon's goal of MVR 1 million collected in donations on Friday night, following which the telethon was extended. Raajje TV stopped accepting donations to the telethon at 4pm on Saturdaty.

Contributors to the Palestinian cause through Raajje TV's telethon had access to purchase a number of items to be sold in front of Fonifonimaage in Henveiru-ward of the Maldives capital city, where RaajjeTV is located. A bank account number and tracking of donations were live with the telethon.

The final figure raised in support of Palestine by Raajje TV and the people of Maldives is MVR 1,615,239.65, which is almost USD 105,000.
