HRCM strongly condemns the attacks on two MPs
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has strongly condemned the attacks on members of parliament for Feydhoo constituency Mohamed Nihad and Ibrahim Shareef.
The Commission is concerned about the prevalence of physical assault, defamation and hate speech in political disputes and differences of opinion.
The Commission reminds that these actions are also criminal offences.
HRCM called on the relevant authorities to investigate such cases and take action as soon as possible.

The Elections Commission (EC) has disclosed that more than 221,000 has cast their ballots so far.
EC disclosed that 221,496 people exercised their right to vote, by 15:00 pm. This is 78.32 percent of eligible voters.
This includes 111,273 females and 110,223 males.
A total of 282,804 people are eligible to vote in the second round of the 2023 Presidential Election.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has disclosed that the authority has received reports of threats and intimidation by members of criminal groups on election-related activities today.
MPS noted that the authority has also received reports of attacks on election-related activities today.
These cases are being investigated as serious crimes, says MPS.

MPS states that one of them have been released after questioning.

EC disclosed that 65,600 people exercised their right to vote, by 10:00 am. This is 12.84 percent of eligible voters.
