Second round of voting begins
Second round of voting begins in the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections

Voting has begun in the second round of the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections 2020.

Polling is to take place for citizens voting for Local Councils and Women's Development Committee Elections candidates from HA. Thakandhoo, HA. Uligamu, N. Magoodhoo, R. Maakurathu, B. Kendhoo, B. Kihaadhoo, V. Fulidhoo, M. Raiymandhoo, F. Dhara'nboodhoo and L. Kalaidhoo, L. Maavah and Th. Gaadhihffushi.

The elections, which were initially scheduled for 2020 but had been postponed a year due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, had taken place on the 10 April 2021.

A second round of elections was initiated on Labour Day for some islands, as the number of votes received by candidates contesting for the same seat had been equal in some cases, in addition to some having cast their votes into the wrong ballot boxes.

Voting in the second round of elections took place between 9am and 4pm on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, President of the Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef stated that voting had not begin in B. Kendhoo as no eleigible voters had attended the polling station to cast their ballots in the second round of voting. EC reveled that voting had not yet begun for the ballot box stationed at Iskandhar School in B. Kendhoo.

The Local Government Authority (LGA) have revealed that newly-elected councilors will be sworn into office after the end of Ramazan.
