President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially unveiled the ‘Library and Digital Archive’ of the People’s Majlis.

The digital library was inaugurated on Thursday morning, following the inaugural sitting of the People’s Majlis where the president delivered his third presidential address.

The parliament in late January announced that the digital library and archive will be inaugurated by the president.

The library and digital archive are on the new 13-storey building located south of the Parliament building.

A special monument was also unveiled at the ceremony, inscribed with President Solih’s name and the inauguration date. Speaker and former President, Mohamed Nasheed presented Solih with a commemorative plaque afterwards.

The purpose of the library and digital archive is to maintain and preserve historical documents and make it easier for the public to access information, photos and videos relating to the Parliament. It comprises of over 6,680 texts, 1,529 videos, 2,133 books, and over 10,000 photographs.
