Maldives Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, who is currently on an official trip to Spain, has been reported safe from the explosion that killed two and injured many in the nation’s capital, Madrid.
Speaking to RaajjeMV just after reports of the explosion took media by storm, Minister Mausoom confirmed that he was in Madrid, adding that he was safe.
According to international media, at least two people were killed with eight being injured due to the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by a gas leak in Madrid. Reports further indicate that one of the injured, is in critical condition.
Media cited eye witnesses in the region of the explosion having stated that the explosion took place near a school in an inhabited area.
It has been reported that some of the buildings in the region, crumbled due to the explosion.
During his trip to Spain, Minister Mausoom took part in the 113th Executive Council session of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held earlier this week.
During the council session, the Maldives minister briefed the king regarding the island nation’s sustainable development policies in developing its tourism industry.
