Da Grande Sports Club has moved up the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DDPL) table after beating Club Valencia during Saturday’s game, while United Victory (UV) and Super United Sports (SUS) tied.

Valencia lost to Da Grande with a 2-1 score during Saturday’s first game, with which Da Grande has moved up to the third spot in the league table with nine points.

Saturday’s game marks the first loss for Club Valencia in the league so far.

Both teams showed an equal performance into the beginning of the game, with Valencia goalie Mohamed Shafeeu barely controlling a strike by Da Grande forward Otabek Khaydarov.

Valencia amped up their game and went on the offensive, the club’s forward Ali Fasir even having earned an excellent opportunity to score in the 30th minute. Da Grande goalie Abdul Aleem Iyan snatched the ball.

Da Grande leveled up their attack game into the second half, having secured the lead with its first score in the 50th minute. The winning team’s first score was by Ayaz Ahmed.

Three minutes prior to time out, Valencia tied with Da Grande with its only score of the game by football star Ali Ashfaq. Two minutes later Da Grande widened the gap with its winning score by midfielder Akhror Umanonov.

Speaking after the game, Valencia Coach Mohamed Athif stressed that Valencia aimed to win the game at any cost, however, he was content with the efforts players put into the game. He added that Valencia lost the game due to tactical mistakes.

Da Grande Coach Ismail Mahfooz stated that players were determined to win the match in light of the previous tie with Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, which remains on top of the table.

Despite the loss, Club Valencia remains in second place in the league table with 11 points.

Meanwhile, during the last game of week six on Saturday night, UV and SUS tied with a 1-1 score.

SUS scored 25 minutes into the game, despite UV having attempted to score 12 minutes in. SUS’s only goal was scored by Mohri Eisuke.

UV’s Ahmed Rasheed failed an attempted goal at the 38th minute, however, the team amped up its game into the second half, finally having scored in the extra minutes of the game, through a penalty by Ismail Easa.

UV’s Mohamed Arif attempted a strike which made the goal at the 52nd minute, however, it was deemed offside.

With these results, SUS remains in fifth spot with seven points while UV, who has just three points after six matches, falls to the bottom of the table.
