The island of GA. Dhehvadhoo has been brought under monitoring as 10 people have tested positive for the Covid-19 infection.

Speaking to the press, Spokesperson for the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that GA. Dhehvadhoo had been brought under a state of monitoring to identify the extent of the threat of Covid-19 on the island.

According to Dr. Nazla, a person who was observing quarantine in Dhehvadhoo had tested positive for Covid-19, and others, who later tested positive for the virus, had been released from quarantine on the island based on incorrect information.

They received incorrect information while test results were still pending, and were released from quarantine where they came in to contact with others. From among the, a 4-month-old child tested positive for Covid-19, and a contact of the child tested positive for Covid-19 on 6 January."

Dr. Nazla further revealed that they had not been aware that the positive case had exhibited symptoms of Covid-19, and that they had begun extensive contact tracing and testing efforts once that information came to light on Wednesday.

She said that results received on Thursday show that 10 people had tested positive for Covid-19 on Dhehvadhoo.

Dr. Nazla went on to confirm that they had proceeded with extensive contact tracing efforts on the island, and that Dhehvadhoo will be placed under monitoring as the situation develops.

A 79-year-old who tested positive for Covid-19 on Dhehvadhoo island has now been transferred to the Covid Management Center at GA Atoll Hospital for further treatment.

In addition to this, Dr. Nazla explained that 14 people had tested positive for Covid-19 from Niyama Resort in Dhaalu Atoll, and that 26 contacts had now been identified in relation to those cases.

She added that they had tested 86 random samples once the first case had been discovered, at which point none of the results had come back positive for Covid-19.

She revealed that 5 out of the 14 positive cases at the resort represented employees and that the HEOC was conducting active surveillance on the island to control and monitor the spread of the virus.
