A Maldivian man who fell into the sea has encountered a shark and been transferred to Lh. Naifaru for emergency medical care after having sustained injuries.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s spokesperson, Ibrahim Azim said that the injured 40-year-old had been on fishing vessel "Zikuraa" near Lh. Faadhoo island when he fell into the water and got caught by a shark. He sustained injuries to his leg with possible serious damage to a major nerve, and was transferred to Naifaru with the help of the MNDF Northern Area Coast Guard .

MNDF revealed that they had gotten the report for this incident at 9:36am on Wednesday.

Bad weather is likely to last throughout the day, with waves up to three or five feet and rough seas that are expected to worsen under cloud cover. The Maldives Meterological Service has issued an advisory for the public to only use sea transport for emergencies and exercise caution while out at sea.
