A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Maldives Sports Corporation and the Housing Development Corporation.

The MoU was signed between both corporations on Thursday and the purpose of the MoU is for joint cooperation in developing the sports sector.

As such, under the agreement, plots of lands allocated for the development of sports facilities under HDC, developing other sports facilities as well as developing sports ground in different plots of land.

The agreement also includes research and assessment of demand for different disciplines of sports and concurrently developing strategies to cater for the existing and upcoming sports facilities

During the signing ceremony, Managing Director of the Sports Corporation, Mauroof Ahmed and Managing Director of HDC, Shuhail Ahmed signed the MoU.

Mauroof revealed that the company had always wanted to establish sports facilities and that the establishment of the agreement will take the development of sports facilities to new heights.

Different facilities that have the adequate space and allow different types of sports for all will be built under the three-year agreement, which aims to resolve the issue of space scarcity, arrange technical programmes in the sector among other reasons.

Highlighting that HDC puts in its best efforts to ensure Hulhumalé is adequate for modern facilities, Shuhail stated that the agreement will enhance these efforts even further.

Although it has been revealed that the Sports Corporation must be given a plot of land within a year since inception, the former administration failed to follow through. The company was earlier tasked with acquiring the supplies for the development of outdoor gyms in 61 residential islands, however, the company had not been tasked with a lot of work during the former administration.
