Air Seychelles is scheduled to start operations to Maldives on Saturday, in time for the tourist peak season.

This was announced by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) via Twitter on Thursday.

The company, under which Velana International Airport (VIA) is operated, revealed that Air Seychelles will commence operation with weekly flights from December 5.

The airline will operate flights on Saturdays.

Air Seychelles earlier announced flight operations from Johannesburg to Maldives from the first week of December, until January 2021.

In addition, the company also announced that British Airways is set to start daily flights to Maldives from Saturday onwards as well.

The national airline of Great Britain will increase additional flights from Saturday to Tuesday, December 8.

British Airways resumed flight operation to the island nation in mid-October after having halted operations due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, three weekly flights are being operated on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays and return flights are scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Several safety measures including social distancing, use of hand sanitizers and wearing face masks have been enforced by the airline upon resuming flight operations.

Earlier, the government extended the validity time for negative PCR certification from 72 hours to 96 hours prior to tourist arrival in the Maldives.

Since border reopening, airlines have been increasing flight frequency to the island nation, and this comes at a time the country, a favorite tropical destination among zealous travelers, has entered the peak season for tourism.
