Since border reopening, Maldives recorded the highest single-day tourist arrival rate, on Sunday.
Statistics publicized by Velana International Airport revealed that a total of 2,240 tourists arrived on Sunday while 1,621 departed the island nation the same day.
Further, 13 commercial flights and nine private jets landed at VIA on Sunday.
Airport official also revealed that Sunday was a busy day in regards to domestic flights.
Tourism industry experts predict tourist arrivals to increase from next week, during what is described as “peak season”.
As per the latest statistics disclosed by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 51,354 arrived in the country since borders were reopened on July 15, with a daily average of 997 in November.
The top source market for tourism is Russia with 11,240 arrivals, while tourist arrivals have been recorded from United Arab Emirates, United States, United Kingdom, India, Germany, France, Brazil, Ukraine and Spain as well.
Maldives responded to the escalating situation of Covid-19 by shutting down borders following which the country’s tourism industry was at a complete standstill for nearly four months.
