An expatriate has died from electrocution, in Vaadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

President of the island council, Mohamed Waheed told RaajjeMV that the expatriate died on Tuesday.

The cause of his death has not been confirmed yet, however, Waheed noted that he is to have died after touching a “charged” steel pole holding a mercury light.

The council president cited eye witnesses in the region to have revealed that the expatriate was trying to redirect the light beam.

Police officers stationed on the island are currently investigating the case.

Waheed added that they have also been trying to reach out to the family of deceased, to no avail.
