The People’s Majlis is scheduled to begin the first sitting of its third session of the ongoing year, on Monday.

Majlis went into recess after concluding the final sitting of the second session of the year, on September 6.

A number of bills have been placed on Monday’s agenda.

As such, Maavashu constituency MP Mohamed Saeed is set to question the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam.

The minister is set to be questioned regarding the protection of Maavah island in Laamu atoll which was one of the islands to have been severely affected by monsoon showers and swell wave surges. He is also to be questioned regarding the island’s land reclamation project for which the surveillance work has already been completed.

Nominations for the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC) are also scheduled to be forwarded for committee review, during the upcoming Majlis sitting.

MPS will also be deliberating on passing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s nomination Asim Ahmed, the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organization in Geneva as the representative to the World Trade Organization.

Deliberations will also be held on the motion to amend the Maldives constitution, amending the Anti-Corruption Commission Act and another bill, all endorsed by the government.

The most important decision to be reached by the parliament is regarding the State Budget 2021 which is to be submitted by the Finance Minister.
