Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Abdulla Fayaz has been suspended.
This was revealed by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in an announcement which reads that a number of employees at the ministry had lodged corruption claims against Fayaz at the commission as well as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
As such, Fayaz is suspended for 30 days while an investigation is carried out. His salary will run throughout the suspension period.
Fayaz served as the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure during now incarcerated former President Abdulla Yameen’s tenure before his appointment to the post of Permanent Secretary at the Transport Ministry during April 2019.
The claims were based on eight major complaints including the employment of five individuals who were working with Fayaz at the Housing Ministry before, using his influence to employ particular parties as well as fraud in issuing licenses.
There have been similar issues regarding corruption within the ministry in previous occasions as well.
